Rooting Android is dead in 2025, and will be even more dead in 2026. Here are the reasons

Rooting Android devices is getting harder and harder.

I have to admit that rooting isn’t as simple as it used to be. Now, many Android phones use multiple security measures to prevent you from rooting your phone. As mentioned here: https://github.com/zenfyrdev/bootloader-unlock-wall-of-shame. It’s not worth doing various research projects to make everything work. It’s like a plug-and-play of plugins and drivers. Some apps check different things. Bank apps also check for different things; this Google shit has multiple checks: API, logins, yada yada. Yugh. The cat-and-mouse game is exhausting, and the mice are winning.

Hack higher

Nowadays, it’s more convenient to use modded apps than to try to hack everything from the root level. Welp, I hope Android can still sideload apps in the future (a.k.a installing from a suspicious source)

Embrace the Paid System

The more money you have, the less it’s worth your time and hassle to spend hours rooting and exploring apps. It’s a good way to learn about Android, though.

Stock Android is Actually Good Now. Enterprises are making good products, ngl

Remember when you needed root for basic features like dark mode, gesture navigation, or customizable quick settings? Yeah, stock Android has most of that now. Custom ROMs were essential in the KitKat/Lollipop era; in 2025, they’re niche hobby projects.

Conclusion

Rooting had a good run. It taught a generation how Android worked under the hood. But in 2025, it’s a relic—a hobby for the stubborn, the nostalgic, and those with too much free time. For everyone else? Install YouTube Revanced and move on.
